چکیده

turing of the left upper extremity. The dystonic posture of the left upper extremity caused levitation of the arm with flexed fingers and an extended wrist. Stimulussensitive generalized myoclonic jerks were Dear Sir, Creutzfeld-Jakob disease (CJD) is a progressive spongiform encephalopathy that is mainly characterized by rapidly progressive dementia, myoclonus, ataxia, epilepsia partialis continua, visual disturbances and movement disorders [1–7] . Several movement disorders including myoclonus, dystonia, choreoathetosis, tremor and parkinsonism have been described in a significant number of patients with CJD [8] . However, dystonia as an early symptom is rare. We report a patient who showed generalized dystonia followed by focal dystonia in early-stage disease with concomitant lesions on diffusionweighted MR images (DWI).

Spreading brain lesions in a familial Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease with V180I mutation over 4 years

BACKGROUND We report a female patient with familial Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease with V180I mutation (fCJD with V180I), who was serially followed up with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) for up to four years. CASE PRESENTATION At 6 months after the onset, diffusion-weighted images (DWI) and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) of brain MRI revealed an increa...

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in probable Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease: a clinical-anatomic correlation.

BACKGROUND Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare transmissible disease that typically causes a rapidly progressive dementia and leads to death in less than 1 year. Although a few anecdotal reports suggest that diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging may help substantiate premortem diagnosis of CJD, detailed correlation between radiographic data and clinical, electrophysiologic, and me...

Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging in Biopsy-Proven Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease

OBJECTIVE To compare conventional and diffusion-weighted MR imaging in terms of their depiction of the abnormalities occurring in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the findings of conventional (T2-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery) and diffusion-weighted MR imaging in four patients with biopsy-proven Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. The sign...

Abnormal diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance images in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

BACKGROUND Traditional imaging methods, including computed tomography, routine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and magnetic resonance spectroscopy, have not been particularly useful in the diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). Although abnormalities can be seen using these methods, the findings are evident only late in the disease or lack specificity or sensitivity. OBJECTIVE To des...

Abnormal diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease following corneal transplantations.

BACKGROUND The value of magnetic resonance imaging of the brain in the diagnosis of iatrogenic cases of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease has been questioned. OBJECTIVE To illustrate the value of magnetic resonance imaging of the brain in the diagnosis of iatrogenic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. METHODS Case report. RESULTS A patient with a history of 3 corneal transplantations exhibited the alien h...
